Dhenkanal, April 18: In a tragic incident, an elderly man was killed by an elephant in a cashew orchard in Dhenkanal district. The deceased, identified as Chhabi Dehuri, 65, was a resident of Kalanda village under Hindol police station.
According to sources, Dehuri had gone to the cashew orchard early in the morning to pluck cashews. Suddenly, an elephant appeared from nowhere and attacked him with its trunk. Despite efforts to save him, Dehuri succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The incident has sparked panic among the locals, who are demanding protection from elephant attacks. The forest department and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
This is not the first time that an elephant has attacked humans in the area. There have been several instances of elephant-human conflict in Hindol block, and locals are living in fear of these attacks. The administration needs to take immediate action to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of human lives."
